WHO WE ARE
About Sia
An interdisciplinary platform where data, journalism, computational inquiry, digital humanities, and public-interest technology converge to build an open Arab knowledge architecture.
We work on the traces left by Arab societies: press archives, historical texts, public registries, and digital footprints—making them legible, accountable, and reusable for scholarship and public insight.
OUR MISSION
Evidence Before Opinion
In an era saturated with disinformation and distorted narratives, where verification is increasingly difficult, we publish stories guided strictly by evidence: every statement is supported by a verifiable number. Through interactive visualizations, we bring that verification within everyone’s reach—allowing readers to examine the evidence directly rather than simply taking our word for it.
We are not a newsroom chasing breaking headlines, nor a platform pursuing sensationalism. We take time with the enduring questions that define our societies, returning to archives, corpora, and empirical records to understand them—and narrating them visually when graphics speak with clarity that words alone cannot achieve.
OUR METHODOLOGY
From Chaos to Knowledge
Every project follows the same disciplined arc: we begin with scattered observations, structure and categorize them, test them against historical context, and distill them into shared understanding.
OUR PRINCIPLES
We Report What the Data Reveals, Not What We Wish to See
Independent
Sia is an independent non-profit research initiative. It has no affiliation with any government, political party, or religious faction. No funder or partner exercises editorial control over what we publish.
We Explain, Not Persuade
We take no partisan stances and promote no political ideology. Our mandate is to lay out what empirical records tell us, not to preach our own preconceptions.
Presentation Is Not Endorsement
When we index press opinion, search query trends, or archival documents, they reflect their respective authors and historical contexts—never the editorial viewpoint of Sia.
Public Corrections
When errors occur, we correct them openly, transparently, and with explicit timestamps. If you spot an error, write to us; constructive feedback is always welcomed.
Free Expression & Rule of Law
We uphold freedom of inquiry, scholarly expression, and the public's right to know, while respecting the legal frameworks of the regions we study.
WHY "SIA"?
In ancient Egypt, Sia was the deification of knowledge, perception, and critical discernment.
Sia stood alongside Hu (creative speech) and Ma'at (truth and cosmic balance). We chose the name because data without perception remains noise, while discernment turns traces into patterns and patterns into deep understanding. That is why our emblem is an eye shaped like the Egyptian solar disc, traced by data points radiating outward from the pupil to the horizon.
Have a Question Worth Exploring?
Sia welcomes collaboration with journalists, researchers, students, data practitioners, developers, and designers. Bring your question, your datasets, or your expertise—and let’s build the path to understanding together.
